Ana Gasteyer, that alum from a little show known as “Saturday Night Live” is returning to the stage to play the role of the infatuated Fosca in the Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine musical “Passion.” We say that Gasteyer is returning to Braodway because she did, indeed, take to teh stage alst year to play Elphaba in the Stephen Schwartz-Winnie Holzman smash-hit musical “Wicked.” Perhaps you’ve heard of it? “Wicked” Still at Top of Chart!

With all the hype surrounding hte movie version of “Hairspray” - which we should contextualize by explaining that it is indeed the second movie version of John Water’s hit film “Hairspray” that was adapted to a stage musical and went on to win such acclaim and so many fans that a re-make of Waters’ original movie has been undertaken with an all-star cast - people seem to be forgetting that the show is indeed still running on Broadway.

However, perhaps thanks to teh hype surounding the movie with its cast members including the likes of John Travolta and Michelle Pfieffer, the Broadway Cast Recording of “Hairspray” is still steadily climbing the Billboard Top Cast Albums Chart.

Of course, even the fun-filled boppy songs of “Hairspray” are playing second fiddle to the soaring score of Stephen Schwartz’s hit musical “Wicked” which is still sitting pretty at the top of the chart. Indeed Wicked’s soundtrack has topped the Top Cast Album Chart for 74 of the 81 weeks that the chart has been in existence, having been added by Billboard on January 12, 2006.

Wicked Concert on July 30!

A musical celebration has been created based around the hit Stephen Schwartz-Winnie Holzman musical, Wicked. Entitled Changed for Good, this concert will celebrate the msuic from this hit musical and will be presented by Ryan Black’s 88’s Cabaret. Taking place on July 30, 2007 this concert promises to be a hit with all the fans who have fallen in love with the music of Wicked. The event will be held at the Eleven Restaurant and Club in West Hollywood, California and some of the greatest names in the business will be on stage eager to sing some of the hit songs from this  musical.
