Wicked an Aussie Hit

It shouldn’t be a surprise that Wicked knows how to be wickedly cruel to previous box office records, so when the Broadway musical came to The Capitol Theater this past week it was clear what it had in mind. Easily surpassing the previous large numbers at the Australian theater, The Capitol Theatre saw a top gross of $1,473,775.70 this past week to break all former weekly box office records for the theater. General Manager of the Capitol Theater Graeme Kearns said “The Capitol Theatre has a long history of hosting hit musical productions, and we’re thrilled that the current production of “Wicked” has out grossed previous record holders. There’s no doubt that Sydneysiders are queueing to see this wonderful musical, and loving it. We’re already had people come back for a second time, even though it has only been open for a month.” The co-producer for the Australian producer John Frost said: “I”m thrilled that Sydney has fallen in love with this wonderful production. “Wicked” is unique, a phenomenon, quite unlike any other musical. Its success around the world proves it is one of those rare shows that touch people deeply, as well as entertain them; a show for all ages from 8 to 80.”
