Composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz has worked with Wicked but though the fame came with the ten Tony Awards he has still managed to stay grounded. He is the artistic director of the ASCAP Musical Theater Workshop for years, giving master classes throughout the country. “‘Wicked’ is a very good show,” he said to the Dayton Daily News. “It’s understandable that is became a hit. But no one knows why a show goes from being a hit to becoming a phenomenon. I’ve been involved with two.” The Schwartz work has been separated by 28 years: “Godspell” opened in 1976 - “I had nothing to compare it to then. With ‘Wicked’ I do. Its success is a continual source of amazement for everyone involved. I don’t know how you could ever get used to that.” If you want to see how Wicked has embrased the giving side of Schwartz that has made Wicked tickets so popular over the years.
