Who Was the Cowardly Lion?

Who was the cowardly Lion? What’s this lion’s back story? What made him so cowardly? Was he ever in love or did he ever do anything terrible? One thing that you’re going to have to do if you’re really into Wicked (and we mean really, really into Wicked- enough to read and write blogs about it), is you’re going to have to read the whole series of Oz books by Gregory Maguire.

As you probably know, Gregory Maguire write the novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West long before it was a hit Broadway musical.  Well, Wicked wasn’t the only fan fiction created by Maguire. Along with writing about the life of the Wicked Witch of the West’s son, he also wrote about the cowardly Lion, who you will come to learn was, before Dorothy arrived in Oz, named Burr. A Lion Among Men delves deep into the character we all know as the Cowardly Lion. Will he seem so one-sided after you read the book?  We think not.
