Wicked, the Musical is currently playing in San Francisco, and on July 27 of this year, the cast will be putting on a special performance to support the programs and services of The Actor’s Fund. The Actor’s Fund is a nonprofit human services organization that was founded in 1882, it is not limited to actors but serves all professionals in film, theater, television, music, opera and dance. The organization was begun because many actors during the 19th Century were ostracized from society and treated as lower-class citizens. They were often denied charity and assistance and at times were even denied a proper burial.
Wicked, is the single most popular show on stage today. It tells the story of Elphaba, the young girl who grows up to become known as The Wicked Witch of the West; and her best friend, Galinda, who eventually changes her name to Glinda and becomes known as…you guessed it, Glinda the Good Witch. The musical has taken the classic American story and turned it on its head. This fantastic show is currently the number one best seller on Broadway. Last week Wicked tickets took in a total of $1,444,495 dollars, the next highest selling show was Billy Elliot: The Musical, which has also become a huge sensation on the Broadway stage.
