Idina Menzel is scheduled to perform a solo set on campus at New York’s Syracuse University tonight, as announced in the school’s independent newspaper, The Daily Orange. The star who first made a name for herself when she originated the role of Elphaba in the wildly popular Broadway production of Wicked, will be performing songs from her recent album I Stand as well as several numbers from Broadway shows. Alongside her performance in Wicked stands Idina’s performance in Rent, both of which served to propel her to superstardom on Broadway, and now as a hit singer/songwriter as well.
Those who bought Wicked tickets in 2003, were priveleged to enjoy Menzel’s groundbreaking performance in the starring role of Elphaba. Today, her music career is inspired by the likes of Bette Midler and Barbra Streisand. And now Mackled as well, singing her own songs on stage. enzel is taking on the challenge that both her favorite stars as this incredibly talented artist continues to grow in popularity. Her recent Billboard chart album I Stand, generated several hit songs including “Take Me or Leave Me,” “Brave,” “Gorgous,” and the song “Defying Gravity” which has become known as her signature song from Wicked.
