Wicked, the Musical first began to appear in the press in 2002, a year before the musical had its Broadway debut. Mentions of a musical appear as early as January 2002, and possibly earlier. The New York Times published a story on June 21, 2002, which anticipated the greatly looked forward to return of Kristin Chenoweth to Broadway in the role of Glinda. By early 2003 the buzz was out on Broadway and the show was an eagerly-anticipated Schwartz and Holzman creation. When Wicked tickets were finally available on Broadway, the show was already becoming popular from its San Francisco run. Critics were not always positive about the show, but the public loved it and apparently thought that the critics were getting a little ahead of themselves. So Wicked stayed.
Today, Wicked is heading towards its six-year anniversary, having already played more thant 2,200 performances. The musical recouped its investments and continues to be the biggest selling show on Broadway. It is one of only two shows on Broadway that continues to fill its theaters to almost full capacity. Wicked is one of the most loved shows around, and if you have not seen it yet, then you definitely should, as this is one show that you will not want to miss! Tickets are available at StubHub.com.
