Wicked is a prequel to the story of The Wizard of Oz, published by L. Frank Baum in 1900. The author is now well-known and renowned author Gregory Maguire, who published his work 95 years after Baum’s book hit the market. The stories about Oz have continued through generations with multiple stories and versions of the stories in publication throughout the years. Baum himself wrote a total of 15 books about the land of Oz during his lifetime and a half a dozen more short stories. An additional 19 books about Oz where written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, who was hired by Baum’s publisher to continue the series after his death. Maguire continued the legacy, beginning 56 years after Plumley finished her last Oz book, and has so far added another three books to the series. The stories have also generated an amazing number of movie versions of the stories which began in 1908. The most famous of these, so far, is The Wizard of Oz, which was released in 1939, starring Judy Garland.
