Stephen Schwartz Wins the Rodgers Award

Stephen Schwartz is a well-known composer and lyricist of musical theatre whose repertoire to date includes the musicals Wicked, Godspell, Pippin and The Magic Show to name a few. He has also contributed to the Disney animated films Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and The Prince of Egypt. For nearly 40 years, he has been devoted to musical theatre and left an indellible mark on the stage. On May 9th, The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera will honor his devotion to the stage by presenting him with the 12th annual Richard Rodgers Award for Excellence in Musical Theater.

Shwartz’s biggest musical so far is Wicked, the hit Broadway musical about the witches of Oz before Dorothy and her house arrive on the scene.  Wicked tickets are currently available at StubHub.com, the leading sight for fan-to-fan ticket sale. The musical is incredibly popular and has won several Tony Awards. In addition to his award for Wicked, Schwartz has also won awards for Pippin, Godspell, Working, Wicked and for his lyrics to Rags. He has also received Academy Awards for Pocahontas and Prince of Egypt, as well as receiving nominations for work he did on the popular movie Enchanted.
