Wicked Rumors

Fellow San Diegans get ready to sing and dance, because rumor has it that the hit Broadway musical Wicked is going to be playing at the Civic Theater this summer. Yes, the most successful, popular and thrilling musical of the decade is coming to our theater, and not for a disappointingly short run of two weeks like last time. The musical is scheduled to arrive here for the entire month of August, and will be opening on July 29.

For those who weren’t able to see the musical in all its green glow when it was in San Diego the last time, or who were not able to make the trek up  to LA to see it there, this is a musical based on the book by Gregory Maguire. Wicked is the story of two girls, Galinda and Elphaba, who grow up to become Glinda the Good Witch and The Wicked Witch of the West. It is a story that presents a very different Oz than the one we are all accustomed to in the Wizard of Oz. Keep an eye out for Wicked tickets at StubHub.com, they will be coming soon!

Wicked Tickets Come to Jacksonville

The Wicked national tour is currently residing in Louisville, Kentucky, but in just over three months time it will be arriving in Jacksonville, Florida. This Friday, January 16, 2009, Wicked tickets will be going on sale at the Jacksonville box office at 10.30 in the morning, according to Roger Bull of the Florida Times-Union. The national tour of Wicked has been doing remarkably well during this economic crisis, continuing to sell-out shows left and right as it makes its way from one state to another.

Wicked is the story of the young woman, Elphaba, who eventually grows up to become The Wicked Witch of the West. It also follows the school-girl years of Galinda who eventually changes her name to Glinda and becomes the Good Witch. The appeal of the story comes in part from the intensity that it shows how people who are a little different are often villanized to make way for the ambitions of others. It is also a tale of bravery and courage as Elphaba resists all influences to stand for what she believes. And, of course, there are also the amusing and light-hearted notes to the musical, that make it all the more worth watching. All told, this is a musical that you will not want to miss, so get your Wicked tickets from StubHub while you still can.

The Show has Closed in LA

Wicked has definitely left its mark on the city of LA, entering the record books as one of the most successful musicals in LA History. This growing phenomenon is returning to San Francisco, where it will be opening shows on the 27th of this month. In its closing week, when many shows are beginning to slow down, LA’s Wicked saw an impressive $2,291,511.50 in sales. This is incredible in theater sales, but is even impressive for this lucrative show that averaged a gross of $1,450,000 in ticket sales a week. From those of us in Southern California, farewell and goodbye for now.

But while we here in the south of the Golden State are saying a fond “farewell” San Francisco and Northern California are getting ready for a rousing welcome. January 27th is a night that is much anticipated in the home of the Golden Gate Bridge, and citizens and nearby residents are looking forward to their chance to pay their respects to the musical with enthusiastic anticipation. If you are one such member of the public, then be sure to get your Wicked tickets early and buy them at StubHub.com, your resource for fan-to-fan ticket sales.

Wicked’s Cinderella Story

Bay City native, Marrissa Lupp, had the Christmas present of a lifetime…or rather a career…this past Christmas. The New York University graduate was studying for her last series of exams before graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater when the phone rang. No, it was not her fairy godmother, but it was definitely something close. While most of her peers were going to be spending their time climbing the steep ladder towards Broadway success, Marrissa had been chosen to play the understudy for the part of Glinda in the National Tour of the  Broadway blockbuster Wicked.

Katie Rose Clark is the actress playing Glinda on the tour, and Lupp will be playing her understudy. As the understudy Lupp will be required to use all of her singing, dancing and acting abilities. She must learn the role of Glinda to perfection, and her six-month contract is something that every theater graduate dreams about. If you have not seen this musical yet, then look out for Wicked tickets at www.stubhub.com/ as the tour may just be coming to a theater near you.

MAD TV’s Nicole Parker to join Wicked

MADtv’s Nicole Parker will be joining the cast of Wicked in New York, beginning performances on January 16. The actress will be assuming the role of Elphaba, taking the place of Marcie Dodd. The actress is most well known for her six seasons on “MADtv,” and she made her Broadway debut in Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me. The actresses other theater credits include Laurencia in Fuente Ovejuna for Waterwell Productions, the part of Pamina in The Magic Flute, and Juliet in the Second City’s Romeo and Juliet Musical.

Wicked has won 20 major awards including a Grammy and three Tonys. It is the untold story of the witches of Oz, Glinda (The Good Witch) and Elphaba (The Wicked Witch of the West.) The show has been the biggest seller for most of its time on Broadway and does not seem to have lost any sales during the recession. To get your tickets to see Nicole Parker in Wicked try looking on StubHub today!

Wicked is Defying the Recession

Wicked, the Musical is currently defying the recession with startling figures and this is no less true in Chicago, where it is entering its last few weeks before the show is closed. The musical made an impressive $1,764,428 in the box office during the last eight performances. Not only has the musical beat its own record from last year, but it has made more money in that single week than any other Chicago musical has made before.

What makes this an even more impressive take is that the musical is actually closing in 19 days. Most Chicago shows would be excited to meet the previous year’s sales, but this show has out-bid its last year’s take by impressive numbers. With this musical closing so soon, and tickets at such a high demand, you might want to look for your Wicked tickets here at StubHub.com, as they are quickly selling out.
