Wicked Weather

As we have been hearing in the news the weather in Kentucky is increasingly wicked in this record-breaking year of cold. So cold is it, in fact, that the cold has actually kept some theater-goers from attending the hit musical that is in its final days in the Blue Grass State. Thankfully the Ozians are sympathetic to the plight of the native Kentuckians and are giving them the opportunity to exchange their tickets for a later show, making it possible for them to attend sometime over the next few days, or when the show returns to Kentucky in 2010.

Those who missed the show can mail their unused tickets with return information to the Broadway Across America Office, 620 Main Street, Suite 100, Louisville, KY 40202. Kentucky is currently struggling with the worst power-outage in the state’s history. Somewhere between 607,000 and 650,000 customers in Kentucky have currently lost power.

For those of us in more fortunate states, Wicked is still making its way across the US, and will soon be arriving in Appleton, Wisconsin. This is a great opportunity for residents of the midwest to enjoy Wicked tickets if they were unable to enjoy the show when it was playing in Chicago.

Wicked in Appleton

The musical is greatly anticipated by theater-goers in the region, who have already been buying tickets to see the musical live on stage. But eventually blonde and beautiful Glinda, who changes her name to Galinda part way through the musical, and strong willed Elphaba must part ways. Boy With Cerebral Palsy Enjoys Wicked

According to the Mount Vernon Register News, from Mount Vernon, Illinois, one young resident of the town has become very fond of the hit musical Wicked. David Hester attends the Mt. Vernon Township High School, and he first attended the musical in 2007. The story and the music opened a new door to language for him, helping him to be able to communicate better with others and giving him a passion for singing.
The character of Elphaba is Hester’s favorite, and he greatly enjoyed meeting actress Donna Vivino the last time he went to see the show. Elphaba is the main character of the musical, she is the girl who grows up to become the Wicked Witch of the West. The story follows her from her days as an outcast, green skinned girl at a school where her true brilliance is finally beginning to be recognized. This is a great musical and an enjoyable time for everyone, Wicked tickets are available at StubHub.com.

Carol Kane’s Madame Morrible

Carol Kane is Madame Morrible in San Francisco’s Wicked, and she does a brilliant job of it as she has in all her previous roles. An actress who takes eccentric and arguably brilliant character parts on the stage and in film, Kane’s roles have been incredibly diverse and all executed to a high degree of excellence. She has described the character of Madame Morrible as “flamboyant, opinionated, highfalutin and a lot of fun.” Madame Morrible is the second biggest villain in the musical.

Wicked tickets for San Francisco are on sale now,and the show will be opening in just four days, on January 27th. The musical has become one of the most exciting shows of the decade, and has had a strong run everywhere that it has played. This winter marks its second run in San Francisco, where it is being met with enthusiasm as long-time fans welcome it back to their city. Even though the musical is now more than five years old, it has not ceased to be a relevant and popular show to see due to the way that it candidly confronts some of the popular understandings of acceptability.

Wicked’s Chicago Run

Wicked has enjoyed a fantastic run in Chicago, as it has in every city that it has appeared in. The musical will be closing on Sunday, January 25, in an article for the Chicago Tribune today several of the cast members and creative team reminisced about their experience as a part of the show.

Dee Roscioli will be finishing the role of Elphaba in the musical, a role that she has taken part in for the past three years. This impressive run started with Roscioli as the understudy for the part, but has been playing the lead role for some time now. During her time in the part she has fallen in love with a Chicogoan and  and the city of Chicago itself.

If you wish to see Dee Roscioli in her starring role as Elphaba, be sure to get tickets for the last performance soon. But midwesterners, don’t dispair if you miss out on the Chicago showing of the musical, it will be appearing in Appleton, Wisconsin, during its tour. Wicked has become one of the biggest, and growing, sensations on Broadway since it first opened in 2003. The musical is also one of the few that has not been affected by a major loss in tickets sales since the beginning of the economic downturn. This is a must-see musical, so be sure to enjoy the new Fiyero, Aaron Tveit, and get your Wicked tickets today.

Wicked Costumes

One of the many great parts of seeing Wicked is the wonderful costumes that have been designed for the show. The costumes were all designed by Susan Hilferty, who was heavily influenced by Dr. Seuss. The costumes were designed to signify each character’s personal journey. In the beginning act of the musical the character of Elphaba wears dark blue, one of the colors of their school, Shiz. Galinda/Glinda wears white, the other school color. Later on in the musical Glinda wears a pink party outfit, symbolic of her social standing as the popular girl at school.

In the second act, and through the end of the musical, the outfits are much more detailed and layered versions of the clothing worn in act one. While during act one Galinda/Glinda wore a short white dress, in act two her white dress is elaborate, floor-length…a version of every little girl’s idea of a fairy-tale princess. Elphaba, on the other hand, wears a quilted black dress made of many different fabrics with red accents. In the final scene the striking dissimilarities between the two characters are evident as they sing their final song together, “For Good.” This is definitely a musical worth seeing for its visual and artistic benefits as much as for its importance as  a work of art. Wicked tickets are a great buy, so don’t miss out.
