Wicked is just one of several books by Gregory Maguire that he has written for adults. The retelling of old stories, creating them in way that gives them appeal and relevance to today’s world, has given a new sort of literary satisfaction to his adult readership. Maguire has become one of the most celebrated authors of our day, and with Wicked the Musical still standing as one of the most popular musicals on Broadway there is speculation as to whether his other Oz books will be made into stage performances as well.
Several things, however, might get in the way of this becoming a reality. One is that the musical changes the way that the story ends, or does it entirely? How can the reconciliation between the differences Wicked and Wicked, the Musical be made compatable if another musical is made of the second book? The third, book, however, may have some more insight into the story, as this one is about the Cowardly Lion. While the prospect of a Lion dancing and singing on stage could give some people the shakes, it could result in yet another fascinating musical. So whether Son of a Witch and A Lion Among Men tickets will be available in the future. Be sure to get your Wicked tickets while the show is still on Broadway.
Wicked is the second film backed by Universal Studios, the commercial appeal comes from the wide-spread fascination with the world of Oz. America has found the world of Oz engaging since the days when L. Frank Baum published his first book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in 1900. The musical has become one of the standing icons of the decade on Broadway, although there are a few musicals that have won equal numbers of rewards non has become so widely known or so widely loved as Wicked.
In 2009, with one more Wicked will be celebrating its sixth year on Broadway. The musical has a great deal to say that appeals to today’s society. A visual masterpiece, the musical’s soundtrack is also one of the favorite buys from Broadway today. No matter what you enjoy, Wicked tickets are a great way to celebrate 2009.
In an interview with CNN Gregory Maguire revealed that his novels are a commentary on today’s society and politics, particularly in America. Before his massive success with Wicked, Maguire had been a traditional artist, writing children’s books and struggling to make a living with the small amount he was able to garner from the stories he published. Then Wicked hit the shelves and it was not long before Gregory Maguire was a household name.
What are some of the things that Maguire is commenting on and questioning in Wicked? Perhaps there is something deeper going on here than simple social commentary. With Wicked, Maguire takes one of our favorite childhood stories and turns it upside down, something that he has now done with Cinderella and Snow White as well. Considering the capabilities that popular literature has in the formation of future social thought, it does make us wonder where exactly Wicked and other such popular literature is directing us. Either way, Wicked tickets to see the musical based on Maguire’s book are still one of the most popular things to buy on Broadway today.
The hit musical Wicked has become so widely popular and well-known that it is no wonder there is talk of it being made into a film, when this will happen, however, is a matter of speculation. This does not seem to be one of those “love/hate” kind musical it is, apparently, simply a musical that just about everyone loves. Although a great deal of the appeal of this musical is in the story, which is definitely one that just about everyone can relate to. But the musical itself is incredibly well-written and well-performed.
Wicked also has some great songs in it. Just think about songs such as “Popular,” sung by the ever-popular Glinda with the hit chorus “Popular/You’re gonna be popular/I’ll teach you the proper ploys/When you talk to boys/Little ways to flirt and flounce/I’ll show you what shoes to weare/How to fix your hair/Everything that really counts.”
There is also the pinacle score of the musical, the song “Defying Gravity” with the incredible lines “So if you care to find me/Look to the western sky/As someone told me lately/’Everyone deserves a chance to fly!’” This is a truly great musical and if you have not seen it yet, now is the time to get your Wicked tickets from StubHub.com.
Wicked the infamously famous Broadway musical has had an incredibly successful run in LA. The musical has, in fact, been successful everywhere that it has played. But, sadly, it will soon be leaving LA for San Francisco, the site of its first run on the big stage. The musical has been an important part of the LA nightlife since it first opened in that city on June 21, 2005. And while LA and Southern California residents will be sad to see it go, San Francisco is definitely happy to have the musical returning to them.
Wicked is the story of Oz before Dorothy arrives on the back of a tornado with her little dog Toto, and it presents a much different Oz than the one that we see in the original musical starring Judy Garland. In it we find out that the Wicked Witch of the West is actually a young woman named Elphaba who was born green, but has a fiercely strong sense of morality and an undeniable courage. Glinda the Good Witch is actually a popular and pretty girl who becomes Elphaba’s best friend, when the girls become roommates through a fortunate accident. If you have yet to see the musical and you live or visit near LA, be sure to get tickets while yous till can. Wicked tickets are available from StubHub.com.
Wicked’s Donna Vivino goes through some exciting changes every day before a show, the actress is currently playing Elphaba in the Wicked tour. Every visible square inch of the actress is covered in Landscape Green MAC body paint. Makeup artist Joe Dulude opts for using the old-fashioned method of a paintbrush, rather than the easier, but much messier, airbrush. After applying the incredible coat of Landscape Green, Dulude adds the rest of the makeup, including: greeen eyeshadow, waterproof green powder, highlights are added with golden olive powder, eyebrows and eyelashes wear Extreme Black. She also gets a little purple, contrasting the green, to create contours for the cheeks and eyes. Olive greene eyebrow pencil goes on her lips and that completes the makeup. The entire process takes about 15 minutes, but is definitely worth the effort. If you want to see Elphaba on stage be sure to get your Wicked tickets while you still can.
