Wicked and it’s Offspring
Wicked is just one of several books by Gregory Maguire that he has written for adults. The retelling of old stories, creating them in way that gives them appeal and relevance to today’s world, has given a new sort of literary satisfaction to his adult readership. Wicked is the second film backed by Universal Studios, the commercial appeal comes from the wide-spread fascination with the world of Oz. In an interview with CNN Gregory Maguire revealed that his novels are a commentary on today’s society and politics, particularly in America. Then Wicked hit the shelves and it was not long before Gregory Maguire was a household name.
What are some of the things that Maguire is commenting on and questioning in Wicked? Perhaps there is something deeper going on here than simple social commentary. With Wicked, Maguire takes one of our favorite childhood stories and turns it upside down, something that he has now done with Cinderella and Snow White as well. Considering the capabilities that popular literature has in the formation of future social thought, it does make us wonder where exactly Wicked and other such popular literature is directing us. Wicked Songs
The hit musical Wicked has become so widely popular and well-known that it is no wonder there is talk of it being made into a film, when this will happen, however, is a matter of speculation. This does not seem to be one of those “love/hate” kind musical it is, apparently, simply a musical that just about everyone loves. Although a great deal of the appeal of this musical is in the story, which is definitely one that just about everyone can relate to. But the musical itself is incredibly well-written and well-performed.
Wicked also has some great songs in it. Wicked Closing in LA
Wicked the infamously famous Broadway musical has had an incredibly successful run in LA. The musical has, in fact, been successful everywhere that it has played. But, sadly, it will soon be leaving LA for San Francisco, the site of its first run on the big stage. The musical has been an important part of the LA nightlife since it first opened in that city on June 21, 2005. And while LA and Southern California residents will be sad to see it go, San Francisco is definitely happy to have the musical returning to them.
Wicked is the story of Oz before Dorothy arrives on the back of a tornado with her little dog Toto, and it presents a much different Oz than the one that we see in the original musical starring Judy Garland. In it we find out that the Wicked Witch of the West is actually a young woman named Elphaba who was born green, but has a fiercely strong sense of morality and an undeniable courage. Glinda the Good Witch is actually a popular and pretty girl who becomes Elphaba’s best friend, when the girls become roommates through a fortunate accident. Creating Elphaba
Wicked’s Donna Vivino goes through some exciting changes every day before a show, the actress is currently playing Elphaba in the Wicked tour. Every visible square inch of the actress is covered in Landscape Green MAC body paint. Makeup artist Joe Dulude opts for using the old-fashioned method of a paintbrush, rather than the easier, but much messier, airbrush. After applying the incredible coat of Landscape Green, Dulude adds the rest of the makeup, including: greeen eyeshadow, waterproof green powder, highlights are added with golden olive powder, eyebrows and eyelashes wear Extreme Black. She also gets a little purple, contrasting the green, to create contours for the cheeks and eyes. Olive greene eyebrow pencil goes on her lips and that completes the makeup. The entire process takes about 15 minutes, but is definitely worth the effort. If you want to see Elphaba on stage be sure to get your Wicked tickets while you still can.
Wicked Author at Christmas
Gregory Maguire, the author of the popular book Wicked, the inspiration behind the hit Broadway musical by the same name, could be coming to your home this Christmas. No, he won’t be walking through the front door, but he will be reading one of his latest creations over the radio on Christmas day.

Wicked San Francisco Cast Announced
Wicked is returning to San Francisco in 2009, and the new cast was recently announced. The show, which has become wildly successful on Broadway and around the world is now going to be playing in the town where it premiered. For the few who have yet to see it, the show has now won 20 major awards including a Grammy and three Tony Awards.
The new cast will include Teal Wicks in the role of Elphaba, which she has recently been playing in LA. Kendra Kassebaum will be taking the part of Glinda, a part that she recently filled in the Broadway production. Carol Kane will be playing Madame Morrible and David Garrison will take the part of the Wizard. Wicked at the Morning Show
The cast of Wicked will be performing in the broadcast of FOX’s The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet to promote the recent release of Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, vol 10. The annual holiday CD benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Wicked’s cast will be appearing on The Morning Show on December 18. Tickets for the Wicked tour are selling out fast. The show, which is currently playing in Detroit, Michigan, has sold out of almost all of its 87,424 tickets for its run in the mid-west city. It is now becoming known as the “recession-proof” show that keeps going despite the current economic crisis which is causing a lot of other shows to close.

There are still tickets available from the 19th of this month through January fourth, the last day of the Detroit run.
