Wicked’s Idina Menzel

One of the greatest success stories to come from Wicked is that of musician and actress Idina Menzel. Although a number of artists who have starred in the musical have gained wider recognition through their performances, none of them have quite reached the fame of Idina Menzel. Since her appearance as Elphaba, and particularly her fantastic performance of the song “Defying Gravity” Menzel has been gaining more and more publicity as an artist and as an actress.

Most recently, Menzel has been enjoying touring, and been a part of the campaign for President-elect Barak Obama - performing during the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado. She enjoys touring with her musicians and meeting fans, and there is no doubt that her fan base is growing rapidly. Menzel is once again performing the part of Elphaba on stage in LA, so be sure to catch her performances while you still can! Come to StubHub and get your Wicked tickets today!

Wicked Success

Wicked the musical has become successful not because of any huge hype, but because it does in fact connect with audiences on a deeper level. No matter what period or walk of life you come from, there is something for just about everyone in Wicked. The musical appeals to younger generations in its incredible set design and the characters of the young Elphaba and Galinda, who are both challenged to grow in order to reach a mutual friendship. For adults there is the political intrigue, the deeper story of morality that shows how things that appear one way on the surface, are often very different when you are inside the situation.

The stories that have unfolded around Oz seem to be somewhat like the unpeeling of an onion. With each layer you get a little deeper inside until you find yourself in a place that is very different than where you began, though it is still the same place. If the story of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is the outer layer, then Wicked is several layers deeper. The question that remains is what will we find at the deepest layer of Oz? Come and see the musical that has taken our beloved story to a deeper level. Go to StubHub and get your Wicked tickets today!

Wicked: Oz Retold

Gregory Maguire used an interesting aspect of human existence in order to create his fascinating world of Oz. The fact that from different perspectives the same story may appear completely different. Writer Winnie Holzman, honed in on this idea even more, giving greater emphasis to the fact that if you see something from both sides of a matter, you will be astounded. The two artists have used this to take one of our favorite American fairy tales and turn it on it’s head. The story of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz is turned around when we see it from the perspective of Elphaba and her friends.

As we wander through Oz with the cast of Wicked we begin to see some of our favorite characters from Oz in a less-than-favorable light, as well as seeing some of our lest favorite characters in a favorable light. The characters of Glinda the Good and The Wicked Witch of the West become Glinda, the cute and popular, and Elphaba, the talented and woefully missunderstood. And if this isn’t enough, just wait till you reach the second act, and discover the true face of Oz. Find your Wicked tickets at StubHub today!
