Spotlight on Wicked book Author Winnie Holzman

Winnie Holzman is the woman who penned the book for Stephen Schwartz’s musical Wicked. The New York City native grew up on Long Island and majored in English and creative writing at Princeton University, where she received numerous accolades such as the Academy of American Poets Prize and the Ward Prize. Although Holzman was trained in musical theater, she started her writing career for television, scoring one of her first gigs writing for Thirtysomething and later writing for The Wonder Years and Once and Again. Holz created the Emmy-nominated series My So-Called Life as well and currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband Paul Dooley.

In the late ’90s, Holz was approached by Schwartz to be the book writer for Wicked and since then has also been involved with casting for London’s West End production of Wicked with Schwartz and Joe Mantello.
