Gregory Maguire Thoughts on Wicked

Gregory Maguire has developed the world of Oz from a wonderful, and fearful, fairy-tale world into something deeper. A politically charged world of magic that incorporates religion and marginalization in a corrupt society. The story of Wicked is turned on it’s head in more ways than one as characters explore where they are going, where they have come from and what lengths they are willing to go to in order to truly succeed.

Yesterdy the cast of Wicked had the opportunity to relay some of their questions to Maguire through a telephone interview that took place between the author and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The cast discovered that Maguire would like to change the end of the play, for just one night, to see how the audience would react to the performance. They also found out that he was partially inspired to write Wicked while living in London during the first Gulf War. And they also discovered that Maguire would love to write a one woman show about Virginia Woolf, Emily Dickenson and Laura Nyro.  Find out what Maguire would like to change about the musical by reading the book and going to see the musical.
