Melbourne’s Wizard Dies

Rob Guest, who had been staring as the Wizard in Melbourne’s performance of Wicked, died yesterday night after experiencing a massive stroke. Tuesday night Guest was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital late Tuesday night following the stroke, he remained there in critical condition until his death 26 hours later.

Rob Guest is one of the biggest losses to the world-wide Wicked community, and a great loss to New Zealand. He first appeared on stage in New Zealand in the role of Jean Valjean in Cameron Mackingtosh’s production of Les Miserables. And he remained an establismenent of New Zealand Theater ever since. He also spent a decade in Los Vegas, where he was also very popular. He also stands alone as the single longest running Phantom to hit the stage, staying in the role for seven years and appearing before both Australian and New Zealand audiences. Rob Guest was 57 when he died.
