Gregory Maguire has made a name for himself as one of the most read authors of the day, with his book Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West being made into an award winning musical. Maguire will be taking part in hosting a back-stage look “Behind the Emerald Curtain” for fans of the musical.His work is clearly coming full circle as there is talk of a movie being made from the story as well.
Highlights for Gregory Maguire’s career include becoming the founder and co-director of Children’s Literature New England, Incorporated, which is a not-for-profit organization that was established in 1987. Prior to that he was the recipient of the Fellowship to the Bread Loaf Writers Conference at Middlebury College, in Vermont in 1978. His books Dream Stealer, The Daughter of the Moon and Seven Spiders Spinning were all selected to join the list of the One Hundred Books of the Year.
In 1989, I Feel Like a Mornig Star was selected as the “Best Book for Young Adults” for that year. Between 1986 and 2000 he received eight residencies in creative writing at the Blue Mountain Center, New York. And the list of his awards and career highlights continues.
