The Characters of Oz: Fiyero

Fiyero is one of the more classical characters from Wicked. As a munchkin prince, he appears to be a little on the shallow side at the beginning, and a perfect match for the beautiful little Glinda. But,after several encounters with Elphaba, he is proven to have much more to him than he originally revealed. It is a fascinating transformation, definitely, but also a classic and repeated theme, which can be seen in several other characers. Such as the part of Prince Henry, in the 1998 movie Ever After.
The story of the prince who changes into a man as the realities of the world are revealed to him, and the challenge of a truly worthy woman are placed before him. The idea dates back all the way to the Victorian era, and perhaps before that, to a period where women were expected to be the angels that saved their men. With Wicked, however, the story is much more modern, as a young man proves to be a worthwhile member of society when he comes face-to-face with the efforts of a strong and socially aware woman.
