Prior to that he was the recipient of the Fellowship to the Bread Loaf Writers Conference at Middlebury College, in Vermont in 1978. The Characters of Oz: Fiyero

Fiyero is one of the more classical characters from Wicked. As a munchkin prince, he appears to be a little on the shallow side at the beginning, and a perfect match for the beautiful little Glinda. But,after several encounters with Elphaba, he is proven to have much more to him than he originally revealed. It is a fascinating transformation, definitely, but also a classic and repeated theme, which can be seen in several other characers. Such as the part of Prince Henry, in the 1998 movie Ever After.
The story of the prince who changes into a man as the realities of the world are revealed to him, and the challenge of a truly worthy woman are placed before him. The idea dates back all the way to the Victorian era, and perhaps before that, to a period where women were expected to be the angels that saved their men. With Wicked, however, the story is much more modern, as a young man proves to be a worthwhile member of society when he comes face-to-face with the efforts of a strong and socially aware woman. Be sure to get your tickets to see the character of Fiyero unfold in the hit musical Wicked.

Wicked and the Other Stories of Gregory Maguire

Gregory Maguire is one of the most interesting and entertaining writers of our day, with his ironic views of our favorite fairy tales he has a knack for turning them on their heads without destroying the stories that we love. The new and adult insights that he places in the story, with social-political undertones that make us realy think, we see in this author someone who not only has an excellent and imaginary grasp of fairy tales, but also has a keen grasp on the realities of life.

The stories give us a sense of reality because they recognize that the world is not always what we seem to think it is. Bearing in mind the fact that we often find strange twist behind established ideals, it is interesting to note that this is exactly what Maguire succeeds in uncovering.

In Wicked, Maguire describes a world where the social mores of current and past periods of history are sharply questioned, and we are reminded that our understanding of realities is not always the actuallity of what is going on. The fact that this story has been turned into an excellent and enjoyable musical, makes it all the more desireable. This is an experience that you will not want to miss. Winnie Holzman and Stephen Shwarts

Wicked is one of the greatest musical phenomenons of past five years, the constantly brilliant casts have brought the visions of Gregory Maguire to life onstage. But the real heroes of the story are writer Winnin Holzman and composer Stephen Shwartz. It is amazing that these two creative powerhouses did not collaborate together before, but fans of the musical are all very glad that they did.

Winnie Holzman is from New York City and grew up in Long Island. Not surprisingly she majored in English and Creative Writing when she was in college, attending the prestigious Princeton Univeristy. During her time there she was the recipient of numerous poetry awards, she went on to study the theater as an MA student at New York University - learning from some of the best in the business.

Her first musical was Birds of Paradise, which she wrote with composer David Evans and was produced in 1987. She began her collaboration with Stephen Schwartz after meeting him at a party. Schwartz had already been trying to get the rights to turn Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, into a musical. When he succeeded, Winnie Holzman was just the woman for the job. Be sure to get your tickets to see Wicked on a stage near you!

Where the Wicked?

The Broadway hit musical Wicked has now become renown worldwide for its incredible story that is remarkably presented on stage. With an incredible creative team providing: set design, created by Eugene Lee; an amazing book written by Winnie Holzman; and incredible costume design by Susan Hilferty, this wonderful story is an unmatched visual experience. But also fascinating is what has taken place to get to the story to where it is today.

In 1900 L. Frank Baum published what can only be described as an American fairy tale, titled The Wizard of Oz. The story became so popular that two years later a stage production opened up in Chicago, meeting critical acclaim. The Chicago production was followed by an even more fabulous one in New York, becoming one of the biggest successes in the history of Broadway. Then, 36 years later, a musical movie was made by MGM with Judy Garland playing her biggest role to date as Dorthy. It was one othe rare occurrances of a great book becoming a great movie.

In 1995 Gregory Maguire published Wicked, launching an ever-growing fascination with the story. The book Wicked was a response to The Wizard of Oz, turning the story on its head and creating questions in the mind of readers everywhere. Then, in 2003 the musical made its Broadway debut, written as a response to the movie by MGM. With its rich literary and entertainment history, this is a must-see film. Elphaba: the Green Witch

The  actresses who play Elphaba are transformed from woman to weird and wonderful witch from Oz, take place behind the curtain. Using color foundation and MAC Chromacake in Landscape Green, the makeup artist uses a wide Japanese brush to transform the actress from human woman to extrodinary, Ozzian witch. With eyeliner and purple and brown to bring out the eyes and cheekbones, the actress is ready to step out on stage for the first half of the musical.

At the intermission the actress returns to the makeup artist to be transformed into the older, wiser and more mature Elphaba. With the addition of extra lashes, extended eyebrows, more defined cheekbones and extra color on her lips; she is transformed into the adult Elphaba.

The process, which was created by Joseph Dulude II, the makeup designer for the show. The Multi-Purpose: Chromacake which is used for the character of Elphaba is solid until it has been activated with water. (Incidentally, it is recommended by the manufacturer for the creation of fake tatoos.) Because it is a water and not oil-based, the makeup is very gentle to skin. If you would like to see Elphaba in all her green glory, then be sure to get your tickets to see Wicked from Stub Hub today!
