Wicked Wows London

In the same city where another musical cut their run short citing economic problems, the Tony Award-winning musical Wicked seems to be going stronger than ever. Just this year, the London production of the musical has amassed some £20 million, which is over $36 million in U.S. dollars. Because of the success, the show has decided to continue their run longer.  Executive producer Michael McCabe told Stage News, “We are now delighted to be adding our sixth booking period and putting almost half a million new tickets on sale. We have been averaging over £600,000 (about $1.1 million) gross a week all summer, and we are delighted that there is absolutely no sign of Wicked being affected by the credit crunch. In fact, theatregoers appear to be actively seeking out the show in this current climate in order to enjoy a night of pure escapism and value-for-money entertainment.”

Why wouldn’t London love this show?  The United States has shown Wicked is one of its favorites as has Australia.  Wicked is the story of Oz pre-Dorothy.  If you have ever wondered why the Wicked Witch of the West was so motivated to stop Dorothy or why she wanted those ruby slippers, get your Wicked tickets from StubHub.com.
