Ottowa Sees Record-Breaking Sales

Ottawa should have seen it coming.  Like numerous other cities the Wicked tour has hit, the Tony Award-winning musical shattered box office records at the National Arts Center in Ottawa, where the play has come to roost.  It has only been on stage since August 27, but it has already sold $1.49 million in ticket sales.  And that doesn’t even include the money spent in other business in the city by patrons coming to see the show.  No matter how you slice it, having Wicked come to a theater is a guaranteed money maker.

What makes Wicked so special?  It may be because it took a classic good versus evil story, The Wizard of Oz, and made a prequel that questions the labels of “good” and “wicked.” While she is simply known as the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz, Wicked introduces her as Elphaba and shows the audience how she came to be known as wicked.  Elphaba has been looked down upon her entire life because of her green skin, but she finds an incredible talent in magic while attending magic school.  That is also where she meets Glinda.  Find out how they became good and wicked by getting Wicked tickets from StubHub.com.
