Wicked is set to celebrate its fifth anniversary, and what better way to do so then to hold a benefit? That is precisely what the Tony Award-winning musical is doing on October 27. The benefit will be called The Yellow Brick Road Not Taken and will benefit the New York Restoration Project. It will be held at the Gershwin Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Among those in attendance will be composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, who wrote the book for the musical. The unique event will showcase songs and scenes that got cut from the final production of the play.
For those who are the biggest fans of Wicked, the benefit would be a one-of-a-kind chance to see behind the scenes of the musical’s creation. Wicked is about Oz before Dorothy arrives. Glinda is not yet labeled as the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West is only called Elphaba. Elphaba is discriminated against and misunderstood because of her green skin, but she is also incredibly talented at magic. She soon finds an unlikely friend in Glinda, but that friendship is challenged when Elphaba finds corruption in Oz.
