The talk around tinsel town has been thick with rumors about the movie based on the story of Wicked. Now the question arises: will the movie be more like the musical or more like the original book by Gregory Maguire. Most likely because of time and the constraints of stage, the musical had to cut back on some parts of the book. The book was able to delve deeper into the early life of Elphaba and the problems of Oz. With movie magic, the movie may be able to bring even more depth to an already popular show.
One thing that the musical has that the book does not is incredible music like “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good.” Without those songs, audiences worldwide may not have latched on to this show the same way it has. Wicked is a prequel to the classic story The Wizard of Oz. While that story has a very clear definition of good and evil, the lines are blurred a little in Wicked. Elphaba, who will later become the Wicked Witch of the West, is a young woman at magic school who is talented at magic but judged because of her green skin.
