Wicked Claims Another

Wicked has done it again.  It has taken someone who claims to have little interest in musicals and turned them into a raving fan.  In this case, it is a reporter from the New Zealand Herald who traveled all the way to Melbourne to see the green spectacle.  Like others before her, she was captivated by the interesting plot, incredible music and fantastic staging.  The show has already made some $10 million dollars in ticket sales and plans to stay in Melbourne for quite some time.  Residential shows like Chicago and New York have already shown this musical to be a perennial money maker, and the land down under is no different.

The story that has everyone so captivated revolves around Elphaba, who is later to become the Wizard of Oz’s Wicked Witch of the West.  She is looked down upon because of her green skin.  She forms an unlikely friendship with the popular and beautiful Glinda.  Elphaba is gifted in magic but soon discovers a corruption in Oz.  The story has been praised for the way it dissolves the simple dichotomy of right and wrong and reveals the grey in between.  See the story that has so many people fascinated and get your Wicked tickets from StubHub.com.
