Wicked is Recession Proof

Is the entire country being hit hard by a recession? Not according to Broadway.  While people might be cutting back on other things, they seem to be saving their money for tickets to shows.  Last week, the sales at Rialto increased about $875,000 for a total of $19.3 million.  At the top of the ticket sales sat the Tony Award-winning phenomenon Wicked.  The show had more than $1.5 million in ticket sales, edging out The Lion King with $1.3 million along with Mamma Mia! and In The Heights, which both had just over $1 million.

Wicked has been an incredible hit with the story that takes place prior to The Wizard of Oz.  The Wicked Witch of the West is simply known as Elphaba at this point and she joins Glinda at magic school.  Elphaba excels at magic but is not as popular as Glinda because of her green skin.  She is already misunderstood when she discovers corruption and sets out to fix it.  There is not a firm line between good and bad and the audience is left thinking about how things get labeled as “good” and “wicked.”  Don’t miss your chance to see it near you and get your Wicked tickets from StubHub.com.
