Menzel Compares Wicked with Concert

Former Elphaba star Idina Menzel is still getting rave reviews for her concert tour and she recently sat down with a reporter from The News and Observer to compare her concert experience with appearing on stage in musicals.  She said, “I think, as artists, we’re always vulnerable. We’re always putting ourselves out there, whether I’m in green makeup or in jeans and being myself. I’m taking a risk in front of people, and it’s what I love to do.”

Menzel definitely knows how to please a crowd.  Before Wicked, she was on Broadway in Rent, which she also appeared in the movie version of.  She was also in the movie Enchanted.  Wicked was the perfect place for Menzel to jumpstart her career.  The Tony Award-winning musical features a unique story, incredible music and extravagant staging.  The character of Elphaba is loved by the multitude of people who have seen the show.  Menzel showed she could shine even through thick, green makeup.

Wicked tells the story of Oz before Dorothy dropped her house in Munchkin land.
