Wicked Breaks Another Record

The citizens of Buffalo, New York must have a pretty mean Wicked streak. Like in many other of the cities it tours in, Wicked has broken box office records in Buffalo.  By selling to over 93,000 tickets in 32 performances, Wicked beat out Disney’s The Lion King, who previously held the box office record.

Shea’s Performing Arts Center, where the musical was held, couldn’t be more pleased. Shea’s President Tony Conte told WGRZ , “We are very happy with the success of Wicked and the experience that we have been able to provide to our patrons. This was a much anticipated production, and we have received wonderful responses from our patrons who thoroughly enjoyed the show.”

As much as the city is pleased by the ticket sales, there was even more gained by the surrounding hotels, restaurants and other businesses.  It is believed that around $20 million was spent in the city because of Wicked.  It is no wonder that Wicked has done so well in Buffalo.  Whether it is a traveling show or a resident show like in New York, Wicked draws in an incredible number of fans.
