Whispers of a Wicked Movie

Wicked has found success both as a book and a musical and now audiences may have another way to see this intriguing story with a movie based on the musical.  The musical has recently crossed the $1 billion revenue mark and shown it can appeal to audiences worldwide.  Rumor is that the success of the movie Mamma Mia! is seen as a benchmark for how the Wicked movie would do.

Marc Platt is the one eyeing the project along with a remake of Jesus Christ Superstar.  Platt has been the producer of many hit movies like Legally Blonde and the more recent hit Wanted.  Platt has been talking with Wicked’s co-producer David Stone.  Playbill reported that the book writer for Wicked, Winnie Holzman, will write the screenplay.  Casting has not yet been determined. The announcement comes after Platt lengthened his contract with Universal Pictures for five more years.

It is no wonder someone wants to make the Tony Award-winning musical into a film extravaganza.  With the success of its predecessor, The Wizard of Oz, as a feature film, it seems like a logical step to bring Wicked to the silver screen.  To see it on stage, get your Wicked tickets from StubHub.com.
