Kerry Ellis, the London actress who made her Broadway debut on June 17 with Wicked, has released a solo recording. A company in London, Dress Circle, is marketing and selling the three-track album entitled “Wicked in Rock.” The recording has two tracks from Wicked, “Defying Gravity” and “I’m Not That Girl,” and one other track, “No One But You.” The CD has a 60-piece orchestra and was produced by Brian May.
Ellis came to the New York production of Wicked as Elphaba after playing the same role in the London production. She will be going back to the West End production in December. She has also been in other productions like as Fantine in Les Miserables, Ellen in Miss Saigon, Meat in We Will Rock You and My Fair Lady and Merrily We Roll Along.
Elphaba is the role that has audiences everywhere raving about this hit musical. Elphaba is the green-skinned witch who later becomes the Wizard of Oz’s Wicked Witch. In Wicked, audiences get to see how Elphaba isn’t wicked, just misunderstood and ostracized by a corrupt government. The story tells the other side of Oz.
