Philharmonic Hosts Wicked Party

The Philharmonic Society of Orange County recently held a gala and used the Tony Award-winning musical Wicked as the theme.   In attendance were former and current members of the Los Angeles production’s cast.  Courtney Corey, who currently plays Elphaba, was there along with her dad, Dean Corey.   Also in attendance was Megan Hilty who used to play Glinda before moving on to a new musical, 9 to 5.  Both Corey and Hilty performed music from Wicked and were accompanied by pianist James May.  The Wicked theme brought out other famous villains like Dart Vadar and Cruella de Vil.  There was a live auction at the event that raised some $200,000, including $2,500 paid for Wicked VIP tickets.

Schwartz Returned to Broadway With Wicked

The writer of the music and lyrics for Wicked, Stephen Schwartz, almost gave up on Broadway years before Wicked hit the stage.  After two Broadway flops and others creations that never made it to stage, Schwartz had his fill of the Broadway scene.  The Bay Area Reporter quoted Schwartz as saying that the Broadway he experienced was more about egos and attitudes than theater, and he was ready to quit.  Luckily, Schwartz felt impassioned by the chance to work on Wicked and jumped at the chance.  The result is a show filled with great music and a composer back in the Broadway game.  Schwartz even has another musical that will open in Palo Alto, CA on June 18.

Buffalo Gets Wicked

The multiple Tony Award-winning Wicked is set to open in Buffalo from June 18 to July 13. The shows will be held at Shea’s Performing Arts Center, a venue accustomed to touring Broadway shows. Shea’s polls its patrons at least once a year, making the decision on what shows to have easier, and fans are more than satisfied with the outcome. Tickets have been selling hot since they became available in April. The touring Wicked is in addition to the set shows in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, although the Chicago show is set to close. In New York, the production is nearing the 2,000 show mark.

It is only natural that one of the biggest hits on Broadway should make a stop in Buffalo, the second largest city in New York. Wicked is in good company as Shea’s has lined up other big names to follow like Mamma Mia!, The Color Purple and A Chorus Line. The show has both evening shows and matinées, but don’t wait until they sell out. According to the Niagara Gazette article, even people who have already seen the show in New York are clamoring for Buffalo tickets. Wicked Cast Members to Perform at The Grove

Wicked Prepared to Celebrate Their Third and Final Anniversary

Three years of sold-out shows have shown that Wicked is extremely popular in the Windy City of Chicago.  It is entering a third and final year at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts and in honor of the occasion Wicked/Chicago and Broadway in Chicago will again host a public celebration at The Great Lawn of Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park.  The show has attracted fans of all ages, young and old because of the story that includes the older tale as told by famous author L. Frank Baum.

June 9 Welcomes New Cast Members!

The London production of Wicked is welcoming new actors to the cast of the popular Schwartz-Winnie Holzman musical.  Alexia Khadime, Desmond Barrit and Jeremy Legat are preparing to join the cast tonight, June 9th.  Khadime will take over the role of Elphaba, Barrit will step into the shoes of the Wizard and Legat will be Boq.  Some of hte current cast members also include Dianne Pilkington as Glinda, Harriet Thorpe as Madame Morrible and Oliver Tompsett as Fiyero.  Also included int he cast are Andy Mace as Doctor Dillamond and Sarah Earnshaw who is a standby for Glinda the Good Witch.

According to press notes posted on Playbill.com, Wicked “is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, which turned every Oz myth inside out.  The musical explores the early life of the witches of Oz: Glinda and Elphaba.  The two main characters meet at Shiz, a school where both hope to take up sorcery.  Glinda is madly popular and Elphaba is, well green.”  You will love to get involved with this inspiring and whimsical musical that will truly get you up on your feet!  Get your pair of Wicked tickets as soon as possible!

A Wicked Adventure in Oz

Everyone knows the wonderful story of the Wizard of Oz and now all of those dedicated fans of L. Wicked Set to Close

The musical production of Wicked is set to close in Chicago after a long run and it will be sadly missed.  However the the tour of this hit musical will continue in various cities throughout the world and it will likely draw in thousands of fans, both from the younger and older generations.  Wicked is of course a prelude to the historic story of the Wizard of Oz.  The new story involves the two witches of Oz, Glinda, the Good Witch and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West.  It is an insight into the lives and times of these two characters before Dorothy and her little dog landed in the magical world of Oz.

The show Wicked in Chicago brought in a record $200 million and featured 1,500 shows that played over the course of its long run.  These witches will take their brooms and soon fly off into the sunset.  The musical’s producer David Stone has noted that the show has been a tremendous success in Chicago, even more so than people originally expected.  Be sure not to miss this musical in whichever city it is featured.  Get your own pair of Wicked tickets as soon as possible.

Wicked Joins Broadway in Bryant Park

Wicked, along with A Catered Affair, Jump, and A Tale of Two Cities, has joined the line up in this summer’s Broadway in Bryant Park.  The performances are set to launch on July 10 at the midtown park and they will continue Thursdays at 12:30 and 1:30 on The Lawn.  Wicked and A Catered Affair, Jump and A Tale of Two Cities are extraordinary plays and they will join other well known productions like “Chicago,” “The Lion King,” “Grease” and “Spring Awakening.”  All of this shows will likely blow you away and they already have many fans around the world.

Wicked Welcomes Two New Cast Members in Chicago!

The Chicago production of Wicked is expecting to welcome two new additions to their cast of performers tonight. Lisa Brescia is stepping into the role of Elphaba and Annaleigh Ashford is taking over the role of Glinda. Brescia is joining the Chicago company directly from Wicked on Broadway and her other credits include: “The Times They Are A-Changin’” and “The Woman in White.” The new additions to the cast will undoubtedly make the production more complete and fans will be thrilled to see these talented actors up on the stage.
