High School Production of Wizard of Oz

With the prominence of the hit musical “Wicked,” there has been a renewed interest in the story of the witches of Oz as well as all of of the other characters featured in L. Frank Baums’ famous book-later turned into a hit movie.  A high school in Shelton, Washington is preparing to put on a production of “The Wizard of Oz.”  The show will run this week from Thursday until Sunday and it tells the story of Dorothy’s journey in the magical Land of Oz and features many talented student actors who will work together to make this a very special evening for all audience members.

Wicked Once Again Prevails!

I am not talking about evil wicked people here, but rather the popular musical which has taken the theater world by storm.  Wicked succeeded in appealing to fans of all ages at the Music Hall in Kansas City- the place where the story of the Oz books all began.  The musical has been recognized as a cash-cow musical and many are speculating that it will hit the $1 billion mark while it remains in Kansas City.  The actors are very talented and the show itself has recieved rave reviews from both fans and critics alike.

The show Wicked is based on the novel by Gregory Maguire and it takes a very imaginative look at the events in Oz before the arrival of both Dorothy and Toto and before some of our favorite characters, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion made their famous appearances.  Instead the musical focuses on the lives and times of the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, the Good Witch.  If you are a huge Oz fan, be sure to get your own pair of Wicked tickets as soon as possible!

Inside the Mind of Gregory Maguire!

Wicked is one of the most popular musicals on the stage today.  So how did this story come about, who is behind the earlier life stories of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, the Good Witch.  Well the Kansas City Star has an article that portrays the mastermind behind the popular story, novelist Gregory Maguire.  Maguire wrote the 1995 book “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.”  He felt drawn to the evil behind the Wicked Witch and sought to portray her as a human being, capable of making lots of mistakes and doing harm but also being quite good in a lot of ways.

It is a fascinating article that helps to shine some light on where Maguire got his ideas for all of his character developments.  He admits that he thinks that Glinda is hampered by her beauty, but still has the capacity to care about what happens to others.  He also says that he views the Wizard as a creepy sort of individual.  Be sure to see for yourself just how these characters act out in the adaptation of the Wizard of Oz.  Get your pair of Wicked tickets today!

Chicago’s Wicked Keeps Running!

Chicago theater patrons will be excited to know that the city’s production of Wicked has just put a new block of tickets on the market for purchase.  The performances from July 29 to November 2, 2008 are scheduled to go on sale to the public on Friday May 9 at 10 a.m.  The production of “Wicked” has broken box office records since its opening and has become the top grossing and longest running Broadway show in Chicago history.  Recently it celebrated its 1000th performance in November 2007 and has performed to over 2 million audience members.  The show also has productions in new York, Los Angeles, Chicago, London and Tokyo.

We Are in Kansas, Just a Different Story!

The popular production of Wicked has found its way to Kansas, where the story all began.  This though is a different take on the original story of the Wizard of Oz, concentrating on the two witches, Glinda the Good Witch and Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West.  The musical is beginning a 19 day run in Kansas City, much to the delight of all Wicked fans in the area.  The show has attracted people of all ages, especially Oz fans who are seeking to get another peek into the land of the Emerald City.  This time though instead of focusing on Dorothy and her little dog Toto from Kansas, the story centers around the two witches, whose own choices and convictions will lead them on completely different paths down the Yellow Brick Road.

Wicked is somewhat of a prequel to the Wizard of Oz and it is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel.  The show has been praised by fans and critics alike who have billed the show as somewhat of a mythical and whimsical story that appeals to people of all ages. A Wickedly Wonderful Way to Celebrate Mother’s Day!

Going From Green to Red

The actress Eden Espinosa is well known for stepping into the shoes of the green Wicked Witch of the West and now she is switching colors-going from green to red as she takes on the title character in a production of “Flora the Red Menace.”  All of her fans are eagerly awaiting her interpretation of the character-although it will be a much different role than that of Elphaba in Wicked.  Espinosa has expressed concern in the Orange County Register by acknowledging that “Flora the Red Menance” is a much more old fashioned story, very much unlike the more modern production of Wicked and she hopes that her younger fans will still be intrigued by the role of Flora.

Wicked is of course the story about the two witches of Oz-Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.  This is a completely different story that takes audiences along a completely different route along the yellow brick road.  It has become extremely popular among the younger generation, although it has also garnered attention from older audiences as well.  Be sure to see Espinosa in her new role and also be sure to get your pair of Wicked tickets from Stubhub.com.
