Chicago Company of Wicked Plans to Close

The Chicago production of Wicked which currently plays at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts’ Oriental Theatre is planning to end its lengthy run in January 2009.  When the show closes the musical will have played 1,500 performances and has grossed an impressive $200 million.  Wicked first began its performances in Chicago on June 24, 2005 and the cast currently features Dee Roscioli as the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba and Kate Fahrner as Glinda, the Good Witch.  In a recent statement posted on Playbill.com, producer David Stone was quoted as saying, “Of all the companies performing around the world, we have been most proud of the success and accomplishments of Wicked in Chicago.”

According to press notes posted on Playbill.com, Wicked is “based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, which turned every Oz myth inside out.  Wicked explores the early life of the witches of Oz: Glinda and Elphaba.  Their life paths continue to intersect through a shared love, entry into the Emerald City and interaction with the Wizard himself.  Eventually, their choices and convictions take them on widely different paths.  Be sure not to miss the show, get your pair of Wicked tickets today!
