Getting Wickedly Wonderful in L.A.

One year ago, “Wicked” made its debut in the city of Los Angeles. The story of the two vastly different witches first featured in the “Wizard of Oz” enraptured Southern California theatre patrons and has provided them with a good excuse to get out to a show on a Saturday night.  “Wicked” has succeeded in setting new box office records, when it recently grossed a record $1,949,068 in the last week of 2007.  According to Broadwayworld.com, “It is now the top box officer earner during a single week in Los Angeles Theatre history.”  Not too shabby for a story that was structured the much older story of the yellow brick road, first penned by L. Frank Baum in 1900.

According to press notes posted on Broadwayworld.com, “Wicked is the untold story of the witches of Oz.  Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz.  One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, firey and misunderstood.  The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular.  It tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, the Good Witch.”  Take a trip to the fantasy world of Oz and learn the real story behind this magical sorceresses!  Get your Wicked tickets from stubhub.com.
