Schwartz to appear on Academy Awards

Composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, whose name is synonymous with the songs from the smash hit musical Wicked, will make an appearance at this year’s Academy Awards, hosted Sunday, Feb. 24, during the OSCARS ceremony, according to an article published on the MusicalStephenSchwartz Web site.

Schwartz has been nominated for his collaborative work with Alan Mencken for the score of the Disney film “Enchanted,” including the songs “Happy Working Song,” “So Close” and “That’s How You Know,” according to Stephen Schwartz fan site.

Schwartz, who said he “had a blast” while completing the “Enchanted” project, will have fingers crossed at the Feb. 24th ceremony while his songs go up against others in the Best Song category.

“I have long wanted to do a live-action movie musical,” the composer said in an interview on Nov. 9, 2007. “‘Enchanted’ is a very clever concept that allows characters to sing within the world of the film, which is often difficult to achieve. Plus I thought the screenplay they sent me to read was, well, enchanting.”
