LA ‘Wicked’: Glinda and Elphaba move from Oz to ‘9 to 5′

Glinda the Good Witch and Elphaba the Wicked Witch will soon be faced with the harsh reality of day to day life.

Megan Hilty, who stars as Glinda in the Los Angeles production of Wicked, is making the switch this coming Sept. to the role of Doralee in the pre-Broadway debut of the musical 9 to 5, according to an article published Dec. 30, 2007 at Broadway World’s official Web site. The role of Doralee was portrayed by famous country western star and actress Dolly Parton in the 1980 same-titled major motion picture.

The pre-Broadway run for the new musical will be held Sept. 21-Oct. 29 at the Ahmanson Theater and will also feature actress Stephanie J. Block, who starred as Elphaba in the Broadway and Los Angeles productions of the musical. Block, a southern California native, will make her debut in the musical as Judy Bernly - a character played by famous actress Jane Fonda in the 1980 film.

9 to 5 is a musical about the three female secretaries who are able to turn the tables on an extremely sexist male boss - a drastic change from Wicked, a whimsical production that tells the story of the two witches of Oz, as they journey to the Emerald City, quarrel  over the same love interest and ultimately become enemies, all before Dorothy and Toto decide to drop in on the land of enchantment.
