The national tour of the smash hit musical “Wicked” is still going strong in big cities such as Chicago and Los Angeles, and the production opening Wednesday, Nov. 14 in Hartford, Connecticut is still on schedule, according to the musical’s official Web site.
The strike started Saturday when Broadway Stage Crews – who are part of the League of American Theatres and Producers and the parent union, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees – decided to picket outside of 27 different theatres hosting musical productions. The union and producers within have not released any official statements concerning the halt of touring companies, such as “Wicked” and “Jersey Boys,” which have productions in Chicago and several other prominent US location, according to an article published Tuesday, Nov. 13 on the Chicago Tribune’s official Web site.
“Wicked” productions in big cities like Chicago have been grossing more than $1 million weekly, according to the Chicago Tribune. With the Broadway strike in its fourth day, the Chicago and Los Angeles productions of “Wicked” continue to do strong business with no signs of striking on the horizon for now.
