Stephen Schwartz appears at ‘Two’s Company’ celebration and fundraiser for LA City College Theatre

Academy Award-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, who is most well-known for productions such as “Wicked,” was honored Monday, Nov. 5 at the “Two’s Company All-Star Event” at Glendale, California’s Alex Theater.

Songs created by Schwartz and composer/lyricist Alan Merken were part of the production, which was held as a benefit concert for the Los Angeles City College Theatre Alumni & Associates and the Los Angeles City College Theatre Academy, according to an article published Wednesday, Nov. 7 at BroadwayWorld.com. The show, which was attended by 850 fans, raised approximately $15,000 and attracted major actors and actresses, such as Academy Award-winner Shirley Jones.

The production’s all-star cast performed songs written by Schwartz for smash hit Broadway musicals, including “Wicked,” “Godspell,” “Pippin,” “the Magic Show” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” Broadway star and actress Juliana Hansen performed “A Happy Working Song,” from the new Disney movie “Enchanted,” which features music written by Menken and lyrics by Schwartz. The performance was a world premiere for the film, according to Broadway World.
