“Jersey Boys,” playing at Chicago’s LaSalle Bank Theatre, has critics raving in much the same manor as the smash hit musical “Wicked” - which is still playing in the windy city and has set a new record for longest-running musical - and the prediction is that it is there to stay for a while for months to come, according to an article published Oct. 18 on BroadwayWorld.com.
The production, directed by Des McAnuff with help from musical director Ron Melrose, has surpassed the quality of the Broadway show in both cast and crew, according to the Broadway World review. Telling the story of Frankie Valli, lead singer in the infamous and highly popular 1970s musical group the Four Seasons, this musical features five of the quartet’s No. 1 hits and gets into the personal aspect of Valli’s life, including when Valli learns his daughter has died of a drug overdose and portrays how the musical group acted as Valli’s family in many respects when he was going through hard times.
If you still haven’t seen “Wicked” - the story of Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda (the Good Witch of the East) and how the two youngsters got to know each other at sorcery school, became friends and then had a falling out long before Dorothy and Toto dropped into the wonderful world of Oz - then what are you waiting?
