“Wicked” Still at Top of Chart!

With all the hype surrounding hte movie version of “Hairspray” - which we should contextualize by explaining that it is indeed the second movie version of John Water’s hit film “Hairspray” that was adapted to a stage musical and went on to win such acclaim and so many fans that a re-make of Waters’ original movie has been undertaken with an all-star cast - people seem to be forgetting that the show is indeed still running on Broadway.

However, perhaps thanks to teh hype surounding the movie with its cast members including the likes of John Travolta and Michelle Pfieffer, the Broadway Cast Recording of “Hairspray” is still steadily climbing the Billboard Top Cast Albums Chart.

Of course, even the fun-filled boppy songs of “Hairspray” are playing second fiddle to the soaring score of Stephen Schwartz’s hit musical “Wicked” which is still sitting pretty at the top of the chart. Indeed Wicked’s soundtrack has topped the Top Cast Album Chart for 74 of the 81 weeks that the chart has been in existence, having been added by Billboard on January 12, 2006.

This competition proves that, without a dobut Wicked should have competitors as that is the nature of theater and of course we want it to continue to grow and shfit and change.
