Dogs Are Loved by Wicked Cast

If one of your favorite things about the Wizard of Oz novel and subsequent film and stage adaptations is the existence of Toto, Dorothy’s dog, then you should be happy to know that the existence of puppy love is not gone even though the smash-hit “Wicked” takes place before Dorothy and her little dog ever arrived in the Emerald City on their search for the Wizard.

At least within the toruing cast of this show, one man has made quite a move towards convincing his cast members to appreciate the companionship and joy a dog can bring to a person’s life. Actor Paul Slade Smith joined up with the touring cast of “Wicked” two years ago, and with him he brought his own dog, named Charlie, who is a border collie mix. Charlie is such a good and obediant puppy, and such a companion for Slade while he’s on the road, that othe rmembers of the cast have taken it upon themselves to adopt puppies to be their loyal friends and traveling buddies.
