Kristin Chenoweth, the vocal aficionado who originated the role of Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked on Broadway and was nominated for a Tony Award for her efforts. Today, however, she is not dwelling on the past as this actress is still flying high in her professional life. Having appeared in a limited engagement of The Apple Tree, not missing a single performance, she also recorded duets for two upcoming CD’s, filled a TV pilot with fellow stage stars Ellen Greene and Swoosie Kurtz and now she is midway through rehearsals for her latest City Center Encores! Outing called Stairway to Paradise.
To be sure life has not slowed down in the time between her hugely popular portrayal of the frothy and fabulous Good Witch, but she is best remembered by non-theater junkies for her role as Glinda and she appreciates that recognition. It has often been understood that there are few people who truly love theater for theater, and who know certain actors and performers as leaders in their craft, who will then go on to achieve mass popularity when they are in a show that happens to appeal to the masses.
