Wicked is the sort of show where nothing is not to be enjoyed. Wicked is not just a show about a green witch, outcast by society and befriended by a “normal” witch, the duo which becomes fast friends who then have a falling out and finally are left as individuals to fend for themselves and forge their own paths in life. Well, okay it is about these things to a point, very directly, and yet there is much more to it than this. Wicked is a musical about the struggles all people face, to be accepted in a particular group. Yes, Elphaba is ostracized thanks to her skin color, but she is befriended by one who can help make her “popular” and thus she seemingly gains the confidence needed to continue on. However, in the end every situation – whether it be starting a new job, a new class or meeting a new group of friends – is a small battle we must fight all by ourselves, and it usually beings iwth9in ourselves.

Thus this great musical teaches that having inner strength, to do what you know is right, to do what is in your heart, to do what works for your life even if not for anyone elses’, is the only way to truly live your own life. Wicked: A Great Prequel!

Wicked has an appeal for people that extends beyond the quality of the musical, and we think it has something to do with the prequel factor. We have a sort of obsession within out cultures consciousness to want to know what happened before the story that we are given. Prequels in films sell out much better than sequels do, because the back story is somehow much more interesting to fans who have loved a character or a storyline and want to see how the events they fell in love with came about.

Wicked Alum Moving On

A Wicked alum is still doing grand! Stephanie J. Block, who is currently starring in The Pirate Queen, is a one-time member of the Broadway cast of Wicked and had been seen in several other Broadway shows before taking up her role in Stephen Schwartz’s hit musical.

The national touring company of Wicked presented a concert yesterday, May 21, 2007, to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and Denver’s Project Angel Heart. The concert was entitled “The Ozdust Variety Hour” and was held in the Garner Galleria Theatre in the Denver Performing Arts Complex.

Wicked Awesome!

Wicked has won over audiences all over the world, and its worth a look as to what it is about this particular musical that impresses people so much.
