It has been announced today that the mega-hit musical “Wicked” will be returning to Detroit, but will not be returning to the Masonic Temple Theater where the show had last visited. Instead, the musical will be staged at the Detroit Opera House, settling in at the locale in December 2008 for six weeks.
This tour is part of collaboration between the Detroit Opera House and the Nederlander Detroit, which has for years been presenting national touring shows at the Fisher Theater and the Masonic Temple Theater. However now Nederlander is quitting the Masonic Temple Theater for the Opera House, wherein the two locales will offer their first joint presentation in November and will continue these joint presentations, thereby putting Detroit’s “Wicked” tour in the same collaborative space.
According to Nederlander executive director Alan Lichtenstein, “The Detroit Opera House has a lot to offer out audiences…it’s a first-class facility and user-friendly, with excellent parking,” Additionally there are many restaurants close to the theater which should make your trip out to see “Wicked” that much more enjoyable! Whether you’re in the area by chance, a local, or a big enough fan of “Wicked” to travel to see it, the show’s tour to Detroit should be a great locale to stop by!
