Wicked to go to Germany and Japan!

It has been announced that productions of Wicked will go international, so for everyone traveling abroad or looking for an excuse to do so and practice new language skills; this is good news for you! This hit musical, with a score by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, is scheduled to open in Japan and Germany.

Based on the novel, “The Live and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” by Gregory Maguire, the musical version of Wicked takes a more feel-good approach to the storyline than Maguire’s novel necessarily did, and the story will once again undoubtedly change as the show is translated into the touring shows respective languages. As jokes change from group to group and cultural references are tweaked the show will understandably take on a new and different feel, and this is all in the good nature of theater.

The new productions of Wicked will open at the Dentsu Shiki Theatre in Tokyo in June, and the Palladium Theater in Stuttgart for the German production, in November. These two shows will join the London and the Australian staging which is set to open in 2008.
