Prior to each show at the Pantages Box office, Wicked fans have a chance to enter a lottery for front orchestra seats for $25 per ticket, cash only accepted. This is undoubtedly an awesome opportunity, and as with all good opportunities, there are rules to be followed. Namely, this only occurs 2 ½ hours before each showing of “Wicked” and fans must present themselves in person in order to enter the lottery and wait for the drawing which will determine whether or not they are winners of the coveted orchestra seats. And sure, there’s only two tickets allowed per person, and an ID is required to purchase the tickets once you’ve gone through the rigmarole of entering the drawing and waiting to see if you’ve won.
Sure you can’t plan ahead, and you must have the $25 cash in your pocket – though honestly, what were ATMs made for if not these sorts of rare opportunities?
Could there be anything better than stopping by the Pantages during the “Wicked” tour playing there, without any real intention of seeing the musical, perhaps, and entering the lottery on a whim, and winning? Surely not! But if entering a lottery is not your thing, check out Stubhub.com to get your Wicked tickets now!
It has been announced today that the mega-hit musical “Wicked” will be returning to Detroit, but will not be returning to the Masonic Temple Theater where the show had last visited. Instead, the musical will be staged at the Detroit Opera House, settling in at the locale in December 2008 for six weeks.
This tour is part of collaboration between the Detroit Opera House and the Nederlander Detroit, which has for years been presenting national touring shows at the Fisher Theater and the Masonic Temple Theater. However now Nederlander is quitting the Masonic Temple Theater for the Opera House, wherein the two locales will offer their first joint presentation in November and will continue these joint presentations, thereby putting Detroit’s “Wicked” tour in the same collaborative space.
According to Nederlander executive director Alan Lichtenstein, “The Detroit Opera House has a lot to offer out audiences…it’s a first-class facility and user-friendly, with excellent parking,” Additionally there are many restaurants close to the theater which should make your trip out to see “Wicked” that much more enjoyable! It has been announced that productions of Wicked will go international, so for everyone traveling abroad or looking for an excuse to do so and practice new language skills; this is good news for you! This hit musical, with a score by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, is scheduled to open in Japan and Germany.
Based on the novel, “The Live and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” by Gregory Maguire, the musical version of Wicked takes a more feel-good approach to the storyline than Maguire’s novel necessarily did, and the story will once again undoubtedly change as the show is translated into the touring shows respective languages. As jokes change from group to group and cultural references are tweaked the show will understandably take on a new and different feel, and this is all in the good nature of theater.
The new productions of Wicked will open at the Dentsu Shiki Theatre in Tokyo in June, and the Palladium Theater in Stuttgart for the German production, in November. These two shows will join the London and the Australian staging which is set to open in 2008.

Tony-Award winner Kristin Chenoweth has been busy recording vocals on two new CD’s! Upon Wicked Chicago’s Kristoffer Cusick leaving the production for his album debut, his character Fiyero has been filled by Broadway’s original, Derrick Williams. Let us take a closer look. The 28-year-old from Norfolk, Virginia spent his childhood afternoons at the Performing Arts Repertory although he exhibited a skill for sports too. “My Repertory teacher allowed me to take part of the semester off to go play baseball,” William remembers fondly.
His first audition was for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat which he drove seven hours to get to in Ohio. It was worth his effort because he got the part, which helped get him a part in Jesus Christ Superstar as well. In 2000 he landed his first Broadway roll in Swing! followed by a very demanding role in Aida. Williams recalls, “They were putting me in all this makeup, trying to make me look old, and when I got onstage I’d forgotten my microphone. I was out there yelling. It was pretty bad.”
He has had a few years to hone his talent and has dedicated a lot of time to Wicked, being in the original cast and then touring with the production. Williams feels strongly that, “the difference between being on the road and being on Broadway is — you’re on Broadway! That’s the only difference. You walk out that stage door and you’re on 51st Street and Broadway’s to your right. That’s an amazing feeling.” See Williams and the amazing cast of Wicked Chicago by getting your tickets through StubHub.com.
